Julie Kinsley, the promotions and marketing director at Southpark Mall in Spencer, delivered activity books on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, to pre-kindergarten children in the classrooms of Linda Gaston and Leanne Schenk at Child's Garden in Johnson Elementary School. While representatives from the local mall distributed books to first and third grade students in the Spencer school system nearly 18 months ago, they've given coloring activity books to students in all the preschools, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, Head Start and K-Kids in Spencer this year. This program runs in conjunction with Classroom Collections

We would like to share this thank you from the Spencer Community Schools.

Dear Southpark Mall,

On behalf of all the teachers and children in Spencer Elementary Schools a huge, heartfelt and sincere THANK YOU for your "back to school" promotion for school supplies.  Because of your very generous collection every child in Spencer was able to begin the 2009-2010 school year with all school supply needs met.  Even teachers with a last minute request of folders or another notebook for their class had their needs met.

Children entered school happy to have a new book bag, crayons, paper, kleenex, glue, pencils, pens etc.,  you had provided all of these.  Please get the word out to all your supporters that we are most grateful for their superb efforts for children.  The community of Spencer and especially Southpark Mall should feel very proud of the help you provided.

Many, many thanks - Lucas DeWitt, Principal of Spencer Elementary

CLASSROOM COLLECTIONS TO SERVE 470 STUDENTS

Volunteers from Southpark Mall and the KICD family of radio stations, coordinators of the Classroom Collection project, joined donors from many other entities on Thursday to unload (above) the many items that will help assist over 470 students this year. The community response resulted in total cash donations over $5,300, and many other people and organizations donated bags of supplies. Some of the major donors that contributed $250 or more included: KICD Radio Stations, Northwest Bank, Farmer’s Savings Bank, Northwest Bank employees, Compass Point ( ADTU), Kiwanis Daybreakers, Kiwanis After Five, Eaton Corp., Hy-Vee, Wal- Mart and Wal- Mart employees (right). The WalMart employees raised $861 and presented Southpark Mall representatives Kathy Anderson and Julie Kinsley with the check Thursday morning, prior to the drop off. We also have a Food Drive at the Southpark Mall in November that helps to stock the pantry shelves in time for the holidays.  This food drive is co-sponsored with the SAGA Communication Radio Stations and Southpark Mall.  This year 2008 we had over 1300 items of food, cleaning products, & health care items.  Thank you all so much for helping with this project.
